Liga Feminina is a female CS tournament system in Latin America, organized by Gamers Club. In this event guide, we’ll explain how it works.

Overall Structure

Liga Feminina consists of six events in a calendar year:

  • 4x Série Feminina
  • 2x Masters Feminina

These events are evenly divided into two semesters (half a year):

  • 2x Série Feminina and 1x Masters Feminina in the first half of the year
  • 2x Série Feminina and 1x Masters Feminina in the second half of the year

 

1. Série Feminina

Everyone starts in Série Feminina and only the best teams make it to Masters Feminina.

 

1.1 Série Feminina Format

Série Feminina is an open tournament: any all-female team can register and compete. Typically, between 12 and 20 teams participate each time.

The registered teams are divided into four groups. There is a semi-formal seeding system: there are maximally two highly-rated teams in each group.

Within each group, teams play a BO1 round-robin. They are free to schedule their matches at any time, as long as the final match is completed before the deadline (Thursday evening before playoff weekend).

The two best teams from each group advance to playoffs, and the quarter-finals are slotted as follows:

  • A1 vs. D2
  • A2 vs. D1
  • B1 vs. C2
  • B2 vs. C1

 

1.2 Série Feminina Playoffs

The Série Feminina playoffs are double-elimination:

  • The upper bracket is entirely BO1 and always played to a finish on the Saturday of playoffs weekend. The winner of the upper bracket final qualifies for the grand final on Sunday.
  • The lower bracket is mostly BO1. The first and second round are played on Saturday. The third round and the lower bracket final are played on Sunday.
  • Only the lower bracket final and the grand final are BO3.

There’s clearly a huge advantage in winning the upper bracket: it prevents having to play multiple BO3 matches on Sunday.

 

1.3 Série Feminina Prize Pool

The winner of Série Feminina receives R$3,500 (US$700) and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming Masters Feminina.

The runner-up receives R$1,500 (US$300) and an invitation to the Closed Qualifier of the upcoming Masters Feminina.

The third place team receives R$500 (US$100) and an invitation to the Closed Qualifier of the upcoming Masters Feminina.

 

1.4 Qualifying for Masters Feminina

The winner of the first Série Feminina of the semester automatically qualifies for the upcoming Masters Feminina and is seeded #1.

The winner of the second Série Feminina of the semester also qualifies for the upcoming Masters Feminina and is seeded #2.

In case the same team wins both Séries Feminina in a single semester, the next best-performing team from both Séries Feminina qualifies for Masters Feminina as the #2 seed.

 

1.4.1 Masters Feminina Open Qualifier

After the conclusion of two Séries Feminina, any team can still try to qualify for Masters Feminina. For most teams, the first step is the Open Qualifier. This is a single-elimination BO1 bracket. The entire bracket is played plus a third place match. The results determine who will be seeded 5, 6, 7 and 8 for the Closed Qualifier.

 

1.4.2 Masters Feminina Closed Qualifier

The teams that finish second and third are automatically invited to the Closed Qualifier for the upcoming Masters Feminina. In case the same team(s) finish second and/or third in both Séries Feminina, additional BO3 play-in matches are played between the next best-performing teams until there are four teams eligible for the Closed Qualifier. These teams are seeded 1, 2, 3 and 4 for the Closed Qualifier.

They are then joined by the four teams from the Open Qualifier and will play a double-elimination all-BO3 bracket with these opening matches:

  • #1 vs. #8
  • #4 vs. #5
  • #3 vs. #6
  • #2 vs. #7

The bracket is played until four teams remain: two undefeated teams from the upper bracket plus the two surviving teams from the lower bracket. These four teams join the two teams that have already qualified through Série Feminina earlier in the upcoming Masters Feminina.

 

1.5 Example

Here’s an example of how Série Feminina played out in the first half of 2021:

 

Série Feminina 2021 #1:
  1. Winner: FURIA Fe, automatically qualified for Masters Feminina and seeded #1
  2. Runner-Up: Black Dragons Fe, invited to the Closed Qualifier for Masters Feminina
  3. Third Place: MIBR Fe, invited to the Closed Qualifier for Masters Feminina

 

Série Feminina 2021 #2:
  1. Winner: FURIA Fe, already qualified for Masters Feminina by way of winning the previous Série Feminina
  2. Runner-Up: Black Dragons Fe, upgraded from an invitation to the Closed Qualifier to qualification to Masters Feminina and seeded #2
  3. Third Place: Aorus Vision, invited to the Closed Qualifier for Masters Feminina

Two teams were invited to the Closed Qualifier for Masters Feminina: MIBR Fe and Aorus Vision.

This left two more invitations to the Closed Qualifier. One of them went to Jaguares Fe, because they finished in fourth place in both Séries Feminina.

The final invitation was decided through a BO3 play-in match between the two teams that finished in 5th/6th place in Série Feminina 2021 #2: Havan Liberty Fe and Voltz Fe. Havan Liberty Fe won this match.

 

Masters Feminina Open & Closed Qualifier:

The Open Qualifier finished with Imperium Fe winning it in the final against W7M Gaming Fe. The third place match was won by Virtual Esports Fe against Kvinne.

As a result, this was the seeding for the Closed Qualifier:

  • MIBR Fe, 3rd place in Série Feminina 2021 #1
  • Aorus Vision, 3rd place in Série Feminina 2021 #2
  • Jaguares Fe, 4th place in Séries Feminina 2021 #1 and #2
  • Havan Liberty Fe, won play-in match after Série Feminina 2021 #2
  • Imperium Fe, winner of Open Qualifier
  • W7M Gaming Fe, 2nd in Open Qualifier
  • Virtual Esports Fe, 3rd in Open Qualifier
  • Kvinne, 4th in Open Qualifier

The two undefeated teams from the upper bracket were MIBR Fe and Jaguares Fe, who were seeded #3 and #4 respectively for Masters Feminina.

The two surviving teams from the lower bracket were Aorus Vision and Havan Liberty Fe, who were seeded #5 and #6 respectively for Masters Feminina.

 

2. Masters Feminina

Masters Feminina is the main event of Liga Feminina cycle.

 

2.1 Masters Feminina Format

Similar to the Série Feminina playoffs, Masters Feminina is a double-elimination event:

  • The upper bracket is entirely BO1 and always played to a finish on Friday. The winner of the upper bracket final qualifies for the grand final on Sunday.
  • The lower bracket is entirely BO3. The first round and second are played on Saturday, and the consolidation final is played on Sunday to decide the second grand finalist.
  • The grand final is BO3.

The biggest difference is that there are only six teams in Masters Feminina, as opposed to eight teams in the Série Feminina playoffs.

The #1 and #2 seeds get a bye and the first round of the upper bracket consists of these matches:

  • #3 vs. #6, winner plays against #2 seed
  • #4 vs. #5, winner plays against #1 seed

 

2.2 Masters Feminina Prize Pool

Every team in Masters Feminina is guaranteed to win money:

  • The winner receives R$30,000 (US$6,000)
  • The runner-up receives R$14,000 (US$2,800)
  • The third-place team receives R$6,000 (US$1,200)
  • The fourth-place team receives R$5,000 (US$1,000)
  • The fifth- and sixth-place teams receive R$2,500 (US$500) each

 

2.3 Example

Following on from our example using the first Liga Feminina cycle of 2021, the seeds were:

  1. FURIA Fe
  2. Black Dragons Fe
  3. MIBR Fe
  4. Jaguares Fe
  5. Aorus Vision
  6. Havan Liberty Fe

MIBR Fe opened against Havan Liberty Fe with the winner playing against Black Dragons Fe.

Jaguares Fe opened against Aorus Vision with the winner playing against FURIA Fe.

 

 

3. Broadcasting & Streams

The GOTV IPs for all Liga Feminina matches (both Série Feminina and Masters Feminina) are available to premium Gamers Club subscribers.

There is an official broadcast for the playoffs of Série Feminina and for the entire Masters Feminina event. Community streamers are allowed to broadcast any match they want, even if it’s also shown on the official channel.
